Police Probe Head-On Collision On Route 9W
A woman was on the phone trying to direct police to the erratic driver in front of her when the crash happened.
VALLEY COTTAGE, NY — A two-car crash on Route 9W in Valley Cottage Saturday evening led to one driver being taken to the hospital, Clarkstown police reported.
Police were called to the scene at 6:45 p.m. by a woman who said she and her daughter had been following a white Toyota southbound on Route 9W.
The crash occurred while the woman was on the phone with a 9-1-1 dispatcher. Watch her video below. She recorded a white Toyota swerving violently over the yellow line and off the road for several minutes while trying to tell police where she was.

In the area of Barmore Hill the Toyota crossed over into oncoming traffic and hit a Honda sedan traveling north. The Toyota overturned.
The driver was entrapped, police said. Members of the Valley Cottage Fire Department extricated the driver from his car and he was taken by Congers-Valley Cottage Ambulance to the emergency department at Montefiore Nyack Hospital.

The driver of the Honda was checked by emergency medical services at the scene.
Once the department receives the findings of the blood tests to determine if the driver was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, we will be able to make a determination if criminal charges are to be filed, said Clarkstown public information Officer Norman Peters.
The driver of the Toyota has been issued traffic summonses.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone who may have information regarding the crash is asked to call the Clarkstown Police Department at 845-639-5800.
