Police Treating West Nyack Death As Chemical-Induced Suicide

There was no danger to neighbors or first responders, police said.

WEST NYACK, NY — A man's death in West Nyack Sunday afternoon was probably a chemical-induced suicide, Clarkstown police said.

They were called to 5 Dutch Court at 3 p.m. Family members directed them to a bedroom where a 26-year-old was found dead.

A note was located in the room that advised first responders of a possible chemical-induced suicide. The West Nyack Fire Department and Rockland County Hazmat unit were requested to the scene to join Rockland Paramedic Services and the police.

A determination was made by Hazmat team members and the fire department that there were no airborne chemicals or any other safety hazards for the family, first responders or neighbors to be concerned with.

A chemical-induced suicide in 2011 in Irvington forced the evacuation of nearby homes.
