Post-Thanksgiving Events in the Nyack-Piermont Area to Be Thankful For

This is the weekend when people start to recover from the big feast and look forward to more holiday events. Here are some things you can do this weekend in the area.

Aztec Two-Step in Piermont: Folk–rock duo Aztec Two-Step will return to The Turning Point in Piermont on Saturday at 8 p.m. for a Thanksgiving Homecoming Show. The show will include original songs from their 45-year collaboration and a sprinkling of their renditions of Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel classics. Watercolors in Piermont: The Piermont Fine Arts Gallery is presenting an exhibition, “Memories in Watercolor,” by Joyce Kanyuk through Dec. 4. The paintings are of scenes from Rockland County and around the world. Gallery hours are Saturday from 1 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m.

Green Craft Fair: Westmoreland Sanctuary will hold a “Go Green for the holiday” Craft Fair from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Children can join in crafts like candle making holiday houses, plaster animal tracks and creating holiday decorations and gifts, and then go on nature hikes and play games. Parents can drop off children at Westmoreland to sneak in their own holiday shopping. The event is for children aged 8 to 13. $20 per person for Westmoreland members and $25 for others. Classic Rock in Peekskill: The Paramount Center for the Arts is presenting Felix Cavaliere in concert on Saturday at 8 p.m. Cavaliere will be fronting the Rascals, once known at the Young Rascals, whose string of huge hits included “People Got to Be Free” in the 1960s. Art Exhibit in Irvington: The Irvington Public Library is exhibiting works by Janet Lippmann through Nov. 29 in the Martucci Gallery. The exhibition, “Color Celebration,” includes landscapes, still life pastels, prints, and oil paintings. The library is at 12 South Astor Street. For further information and hours, click here.

Sinterklaas in Kingston: Sinterklaas Send-Off is in Kingston on Saturday starting at 10:30 a.m. with many events during the day that the Dutch version of Santa Claus. The day culminates with a parade of children from the Arts Society of Kingston to the Runout to see Sinterklaas off on his boat bound for Holland. Events, including workshops, crafts, food, and more, are all over Kingston. For more information, click here.

Wine and Trees in New Paltz Area: the Shawangunks Wine + Tree promotion is offering customers a free one-of-a-kind wooden ornament with the purchase of either a bottle of wine or tasting and a tree or wreath at participating businesses. Winter Wonderland in Valhalla: Winter Wonderland is back for its third exciting season. New this year is the Hanneford Holiday Circus with four shows run each night in the area's only holiday tented circus. RangersTown Rink is back. Enjoy unlimited skating against the backdrop of beautiful Kensico Dam Plaza and twinkling lights. With The Santa Experience, Unlimited Rides and Holiday lights. Ski New York: The 2016-2017 ski and snowboard season has officially kicked off. Whiteface, Gore, and Belleayre are already open. Every winter season, skiing and snowboarding at New York's 51 mountains attracts millions of visitors and generates $1 billion for the state's economy.

Tree New York: Governor Andrew Cuomo is urging everyone to buy fresh Christmas trees that were grown in New York State. Every year, the state assists hundreds of farms statewide, connecting them with new markets to support the $8 million Christmas Tree industry.
