ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Ramp meters will be activated Monday at one eastbound and four westbound interchange on-ramps along I-87/287 that include interchanges 11, 12, 13S and13N.
Ramp meters are traffic signals installed on highway on-ramps to control the frequency at which vehicles enter the flow of traffic onto the highway to increase mobility and enhance safety.
The New York State Department of Transportation installed ramp meters along the I-87/287 corridor as part of the integrated corridor management transportation improvements for its Lower Hudson Transit Link program.

These five complete an initiative to install 13 ramp meters along I-87/I-287, from Interchange 14A in Rockland County to Interchange 4 in Westchester County.

New York State Police will enforce traffic rules at these meters; drivers who fail to stop at a red ramp meter light can be fined the equivalent of a regular traffic signal violation.
