After a successful debut in 2013, the gorgeous fall colors of the Anthony Wayne Recreation Area in Harriman State Park will once again paint a picture-perfect backdrop to what is ultimately one of the year’s most important weekends of cyclocross bicycle races on November 22nd and 23rd.
Cyclocross (cross) is officially the fastest growing discipline in the world of bicycling. “Cross” racing takes place on a closed courses of roughly 2.5 miles per lap, over varied on and off-road terrain. Unique to cross, natural and artificial barriers require competitors to not only ride, but to carry and run with their bicycles slung over a shoulder multiple times during the course of a single lap. Throw in a little typical fall rain and mud and you the show just gets better. In cross, there are no “cheap seats.”

In addition to hosting a pivotal stop on the USA Cycling ProCX calendar (where pros are battling at other race venues from September through December for their share of the $40,000 prize list), each day will offer races for everyone from beginners signing up for their first race, collegiate athletes from the ECCC, to the seasoned “masters” racer taking a break from cleaning the gutters on this weekend. All have an opportunity to race on the very same course that the pros will tackle in the afternoon. Registration for all racing categories is now open at:www.bikereg.com/supercross
And finally, since a family day out in the park isn’t complete without a tasty treat or two for lunch, racing fans will be able to choose from a variety of regional food vendors at the races serving up their best throughout the day.
