Three Cheers For The Red, White, Blue, And You!

Fourth of July celebration preparations are underway.

July 4th is just days away and people across the country are getting ready to celebrate. For many, it's about family, friends, and fun. For others, it's a salute to the nation and the Yankee Doodle Dandy spirit that led to its establishment.

There are many ways to enjoy the holiday. Barbecues, a day at the beach, and fireworks displays provided by towns and villages are the top three.

Unfortunately, there are still a number of people that choose to celebrate with consumer fireworks--many of which are illegal to use in New York State. The National Fire Protection Association ( www.nfpa.org) cautions individuals against using anything but legal fireworks. The infographic below provides a clear picture of why.

New York State permits the use of sparklers, party poppers, and snappers. Even so, 12 counties, including Westchester, have prohibited the use of ANY sparkling devices. The list of state-prohibited fireworks is extensive and includes aerial consumer fireworks, fire crackers, chasers, sky rockets, roman candles, bombs, and metal wire sparklers.

Personal injury is not the only danger; in 2018, over 19,500 structural fires were attributed to fireworks.
