WATCH The New NY Bridge Going Up: Three Years in Two Minutes

Like peering through fences to watch construction projects? You will love this time-lapse video.

TARRYTOWN, NY — If you love peering through fences to watch construction projects, you will truly love this time-lapse video from the New NY Bridge folks.

You can see how the massive new twin-span crossing of the Hudson River has taken shape during the past three years. From the pilings to the towers, the sped-up action shows cranes swinging (the "I Love NY" super-crane, the largest floating crane in the world, is able to lift the equivalent poundage of 12 Statues of Liberty) and boats scuttling around the Tappan Zee like water bugs.

The $4 billion replacement for the aging, unsafe Tappan Zee Bridge is the largest infrastructure project New York State has undertaken in decades.

Most of the substructure work — which includes piles and pier columns — is now complete, officials said. Construction continues with the ever-growing placement of steel-blue girders, road deck panels and segments of the iconic 419-foot main span towers.

Interested in a closer look? You can also view the daily project progress via the project’s webcams and photo gallery as well as by visiting the New NY Bridge construction viewing platforms at Scenic Hudson RiverWalk in Tarrytown and Memorial Park in Nyack.
