Aggressive Coyote was Rabid

Ossining police urge anyone who had contact with it to call Westchester Health officials.

OSSINING, NY — Police have confirmed that the coyote they killed Thursday was infected with rabies.

Police had issued a warning about the wild animal on Monday, after receiving reports from a Mystic Pointe resident and a North Water Street resident of confrontations with a coyote. They issued an alert Wednesday about an aggressive coyote, believed to be the same animal.

The coyote confronted another resident Thursday morning, police said.

Miguel Hernandez, one of the first residents to be confronted by the aggressive wild animal this week, said on Facebook that he had been advised by the Westchester County Health Department to take his beagle to the veterinarian to double check if he has any bite marks or scratches, even though none were visible.
