Flood Advisory Until 9:15 PM For Rockland, Central Westchester

That's added to the flash flood watches across the Hudson Valley.

The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory at 6:15 p.m. for Rockland County and Central Westchester County that is in effect until 9:15 p.m.

Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area.

Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen and up to another inch is expected.

The communities the NWS named include Yonkers, White Plains, Port Chester, Ossining, Monsey, Nanuet and Rye.

There are flash flood watches through Friday morning for Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Rockland, Putnam and Westchester.

Heavy rain may cause some smaller rivers and streams to quickly rise out of their banks. There is also the potential for flash flooding in areas of poor drainage.

Showers and thunderstorms through this evening will bring periods of heavy rainfall: 1 to 2 inches of rain with locally higher amounts are possible.

Thereafter, heavy rainfall ahead of tropical system Elsa will move into portions of the Tri-State area late Thursday night, with periods of heavy rainfall possible through Friday morning.
