Businesses Of The Year: Croton-on-Hudson and Ossining

Patch asked you for nominations of local businesses that have done stand-out work in 2020.

OSSINING, NY — It's been a roller-coaster year for Hudson Valley businesses. The coronavirus pandemic presented enormous challenges for most, from the stay-home orders in the spring to restrictions and other hurdles from fall into winter.

To recognize all their efforts, we asked readers to nominate Local Businesses of the Year, whether it was the restaurant that made special accommodations for takeout, the shop that opened early, the pizzeria that went out of its way to deliver, the hardware store owner that offered invaluable advice or something else.

We've received hundreds of responses!

Here are the nominations Patch has received in Croton and Ossining:

First Village Coffee. "First Village is a locally owned business. I love their coffee and pastries, including superb croissants (and I try to limit myself vis a vis the pastries!)," said customer Emily Stack. "First Village has remained open throughout this COVID19 period, employing "best practices" covid-wise. The owner and employees are always friendly and courteous."

Croton Running Company. "In the age of COVID, nothing is more welcome or needed than good, regular exercise. CRC provides an invaluable resource for exercising alone with shoe recommendations, sports face masks, and general good will," said Jonny Kaplan.

Tasty Table. "They have stayed open throughout the pandemic and they make hundreds of meals for charity . Very loving, kind friendly family," said Bill Sherwood.

Blue Pig Ice Cream. "Nothing helped kids feel better in spring than a ice cream treat from Blue Pig," said Derek Oscarson.
