OSSINING, NY — A pre-dawn collision between a tractor trailer and a utility pole on North Highland Avenue closed Route 9 north of Croton Avenue for much of the night and day. Another accident closed Route 9 south of Croton Avenue, but just for a short time.
The first accident also left homes and businesses from Havel Street to Croton Avenue without power off and on all day.
Ossining police reported the crash and the power wires across the roadway at 5 a.m.

"The pole sustained significant damage and wires are across the roadway. Con Edison is on scene and will soon cut power to facilitate repairs. When this happens, homes and businesses from Havel Street south to Croton Avenue will experience a temporary power loss," police said. "The pole belongs to Verizon. They have promised an expedited response. Their presence will determine when we can reopen the roadway. As you might imagine, we asked to speak with a manager."
Southbound traffic on Route 9A was directed to remain on Route 9A at the split. Northbound traffic on Route 9 was diverted onto Croton Avenue to reach Route 9A.

The last power outage started at middday. Police closed Route 9 between Croton Avenue and Snowden Avenue so that Con Edison could run new power lines across the roadway and restore power to affected residents and businesses.
Police asked people to hold off on errands, etc. until the power lines had been restrung.
They also coordinated with the Ossining schools. "Our staff is discussing alternate bus routes that will keep kids moving safely with the smallest delay possible. We're also going to be working to keep safe the kids who walk home from school. We'll have safe space for those students to walk because we can't send them out to 9A. That would be bad," they said on Facebook.
Not to mention the crash at Broad Street.
We’re having a long day. Avoid South Highland Ave by Broad until we figure out how to get this guy out of the roadway. pic.twitter.com/7BPJaz5Hs7
