Croton Cops: Off-Road Rage and Girls on Ice

A summary of recent police activity and arrests in the village of Croton-on-Hudson.

Burglary?

A neighbor reported to Croton Police a possible burglary of a home in progress on Sunset Trail.

Police responded on Jan. 7 at 6:39 p.m. and found that the place had just been recently rented and the new tenants were there. "Just a good neighbor looking out," Det. Paul Camillieri said.

Off-Road Rage

A customer finding herself unable to pump gas at a closed station was reportedly so disgruntled she was reported for causing a disturbance.

Police said a woman was banging on the locked door of the Sunoco station in Croton at 11 p.m. on Jan. 7, "having a tantrum," Camillieri said.

The 20-year-old from Wolf Road was upset that the pumps were not handling her credit card and the place was closed, he said, adding that police advised her how to handle her anger and sent her on her way.

Nice Finds

Two good samaritans returned found items to police headquarters.

A resident came upon a wallet which they brought to police and were able to contact the 23-year-old owner from Hastings.

Another resident brought in a Capital One Mastercard they found on Maple Street on Jan. 13. The Mount Vernon owner said she was aware of the loss and they could just cut it up.

Girls on Ice

A group of teens were reported to be on the Hudson River ice beyond the Croton Yacht Club on Jan. 11 at 2:21 p.m.

Police found three young women walking out beyond the bulkhead and arrested one, charging a 17-year-old from Hastings with trespassing. The girls were released to her parents.

Winner?

A Mountain Trail resident was called by someone describing themselves as a representative from Publisher's Clearing House and saying they had won the sweepstakes.

In order to claim their winnings, the person, with a Jamaican accent, asked the resident to send $300.

The resident did not, Det. Camillieri said, but called police instead.

Fight

Croton police responded to a call about a disturbance outside a bar on Jan. 12.
At 12:16 a.m., there was a reportedly a fight between two men outside the Friends bar on Grand Street. The bartender told police upon their arrival that the men had since departed.

At 11:05 a.m. on Jan. 12, police charged the man, 41, from Ossining, with public consumption of alcohol.

Zeytinia Break-Down

Police patrolling the area, discovered inside the out-of-business Zeytinia store a man working to remove and dismantle the equipment left behind. Police informed the man, from East Brunswick, NJ, of the village ordinance against such after-hours activities and sent him on his way.
