Croton Fire Department Recounts Eventful 2013, Honors 125 Members

Some stats from the Croton Fire Department's latest post on their website, summing up a great, and active, year of service:

_Born in Feb. 1892, this department enjoyed year 121 in 2013.

_The all-volunteer force answered 373 calls.

_CFD boasts 125 members, with an average of 16 responding per call.

_They responded to incidents in Croton, and beyond: Ossining, Montrose, Buchanan, Peekskill, Yorktown, Mohegan, Somers, Millwood and even Rockland County. The calls were for fires, car accidents, storm standby, mutual aid.

_And some outstanding members in the spotlight:

  • John Giglio, a member of the Washington Engine Company since 1944, came out to 21 incidents in 2013.
  • The year's top responder and 50-year-member Harold Lockwood answered 218 calls.
  • The Explorer Post, 31 years in the running, has 16 members, many of whom are the children of adult volunteers.

_And, finally, "to pay tribute to those that truly go above and beyond, here is the list of 'Top 15 (plus two) Responders' for 2013," from CrotonFD.org.

  8. Deputy Chief Stephen Dominello with 127 Calls
  9. Firefighter Art Roosa III with 126 Calls
  10. Firefighter Josh Karpoff with 124 Calls
  11. Firefighter Ivan Crespo with 119 Calls
  12. Deputy Chief Tex Dinkler with 117 Calls
  13. Lieutenant Joe Kempter with 115 Calls
  14. Firefighter Jake Dinkler with 110 Calls
  15. Firefighter Bert Garcia with 107 Calls
  16. Deputy Chief Frank Streany with 104 Calls
  17. Engineer Dave Altro with 100 Calls

_The three Chief Officers from the past year, who they do not count in their "Top Responders" list include:

  • 1st Asst. Chief Bill Vlad - 185 Calls
  • 2nd Asst. Chief Matt Mansfield - 120 Calls
