Croton-Harmon’s Fourth-Graders Look Forward to Middle School

OSSINING-CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY - From the desk of Croton-Harmon School District: Reading with teachers, performing in Broadway Kids and school concerts and taking regular trips to Sky View Rehabilitation & Health Care are some of the fond memories fourth- grade students shared at Carrie E. Tompkins Elementary School’s annual moving-up ceremony on June 22.

Students, teachers and administrators all reflected on some of these memorable moments before looking forward to the coming years at Pierre Van Cortlandt Middle School during the celebration. Principal Kelly Maloney said she remembers when many of the students entered kindergarten or first entered CET as older students.

“A lot of special memories have been created over the years at CET,” she said. “I know that picking a favorite memory is always difficult, and if someone were to ask me what my favorite memory is in a given year, I would have to say that I enjoy watching children grow!”

Board of Education Trustee Todd Freebern, whose daughter Abigail is part of the future class of 2025, reassured students there are many wonderful experiences to come.

“PVC is an exciting place to be,” he said. “You are going to love it there.”Each student was personally congratulated and welcomed to PVC by Principal Dr. Barbara Ulm.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Edward R. Fuhrman Jr. praised the fourth-graders for their positive demeanors – “I love the way you sing and dance and are happy. Please always do those things!”

He also expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments and the empathy they display toward one another, before ending his remarks with a virtual high-five to the students. Please keep showing you care about others,” said Dr. Fuhrman. “It is what makes you special.”
