Fatal Crash On West Mount Airy Road
Croton-on-Hudson firefighters and paramedics worked for two hours to extract two people.
CORTLANDT, NY — A single-car crash killed one man on West Mount Airy Road Wednesday evening.
New York State Police said troopers joined the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department at the scene near Hollis Lane at 5:25 p.m. Firefighters were working to extract two people from a 2006 Ford Econoline van after a bad crash.
The driver, Puerto Paz, 32, of the Bronx, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. His passenger, Enzo Flores, 20, was taken to Westchester Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police said their preliminary accident reconstruction found that Paz and his passenger were westbound when the van left the road for unknown reasons. It struck a tree stump causing the operator to lose control. The van then reentered the road, crossed over both lanes of travel, overturned, and struck a utility pole.
The crash closed Mount Airy Road and many nearby households were without power for hours.
