Umbrellas, though, may be needed later. Here's the work-week forecast.

"These temps are 15° to 20° above average, providing for some absolutely amazing conditions for mid March," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather.

"The extensiveness of wet weather and cloud cover will ultimately have an impact on whether Thursday and Friday will feature some of the warmest weather of the week," Duff said.

Toward the end of May, there could be an early spell of heat blanketing much of the eastern United States, with unsettled weather ushering in June.
