HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Showers and thunderstorms across the next two days will set the region up for a sunny Labor Day weekend with temperatures in the high 70s during the day and in the low 60s at night, forecasters predict.

These will not be like last week's damaging thunderstorms, the folks at Hudson Valley Weather concluded looking at the data. "We don’t anticipate any severe weather in the next two days, due to the low clouds and stabilizing atmospheric forces."

However, if you're headed to the beach for a long weekend, be wary of riptides. AccuWeather meteorologists Maura Kelly and Alex Sosnowski said the effects of Tropical Storm Omar, out in the Atlantic Ocean, will have implications for bathers and boaters.

"In addition to stiff breezes, rough surf and frequent and strong rip currents are in store, especially from the Carolinas to Long Island," they said.

At least Omar is expected to stay out to sea. Seven named systems have made landfall in the continental U.S. this year, a new record for the end of August, AccuWeather said: Marco, Isaias, Hanna, Fay, Cristobal, Bertha and Laura.
