SATURDAY, JAN. 26

Family Maple Syrup Tapping – 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Routes 35 and 121 South, Cross River -- (914) 864-7322. Bring your family or a group of friends to learn the ins and outs of maple sugaring. This is a one-on-one event and times must be reserved in advance. Fee is $50 per group and includes tapping experience, a souvenir photo/frame, and a bottle of maple syrup (once the season has ended). Also, 2/2 and 2/9.

Wildflowers in Winter – 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Read Wildlife Sanctuary, Playland Park, Rye – (914) 967-8720. Look for green plants hugging the earth in the cold as they dream of spring, and learn to recognize last year’s plants by their skeletons. Weather permitting.

Hike around the Lake – 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Cranberry Lake Preserve, Old Orchard Street, North White Plains – (914) 428-1005. Get out in the fresh crisp air and take a hike around the lake.

Volunteer Work Project: Painting the Inside of the Visitors’ Center – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Marshlands Conservancy, Boston Post Road, Rye – (914) 835-4466. Help beautify the inside of the nature center. Bring work gloves; hand tools provided. Great for any type of service credit hours.

Project Feeder Watch – 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Croton Point Nature Center, Croton Point Park, Croton-on-Hudson – (914) 862-5297. Identify and count birds at the nature center's bird feeders. Beginners encouraged, all welcome! Saturday and Sunday mornings through March. Go to projectfeederwatch.org.

SUNDAY, JAN. 27

Winter Tree Identification – 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers – (914) 864-7282. Join naturalist Tait Johansson and learn how to identify trees in winter using many techniques.

High Tea and Paper Piercing – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, Route 35, Somers – (914) 864-7268. Two-part workshop; registration required at lasdonpark.org. Also 2/10.

Make ‘n’ Take Clay Pots – 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Marshlands Conservancy, Boston Post Road, Rye – (914) 835-4466. Make and take home your own Native American-style clay pots.

MONDAY, JAN. 28

Fourth Monday Bird Walk – 8:30 a.m. – 10 a.m. Croton Point Park, Croton Point Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson – (914) 864-5290. Bring binoculars and join the experts from Saw Mill River Audubon in the ball field parking lot. All levels welcome!
