Obituary: Carmella L. Palmietto, Former Ossining Resident

A graduate of OHS, she raised her family in Ossining, also working at Maryknoll and as a teacher's assistant in the school district.

Carmella L. Palmietto, 87, of Schoharie, NY passed away Thursday, January 21 st at the Capstone Center in Amsterdam where she had resided since August of 2020.

Carmella was born December 26, 1933 in Ossining, NY a daughter of Dominic and Lillian (Fininzio) Cerrone.

She graduated from Ossining High School, class of 1950 and later worked at the Maryknoll Catholic Seminary in Ossining until starting her family. She devoted herself to raising a family and providing a loving home for her husband and children until returning to work as a teachers’ assistant in Claremont Elementary (Special Education) in the Ossining School District, retiring in 1995.

Carmella was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley R.C. Church in Middleburgh, volunteered at Cobleskill Regional Hospital, served as President of Schoharie 50 Plus Club, was a member of Young at Heart Seniors of Cobleskill, the Red Hat’s Society and bowled at Cobleskill Lanes in various leagues. She also enjoyed socializing and camping with her husband.

Carmella married Mario F. Palmietto on May 9, 1954. He predeceased her on October 17, 2002.

Survivors include her children; Frank (Marilyn) Palmietto of Ossining, NY, Vito (Margaret) Palmietto of Springfield, Missouri and Mario (Patricia) Palmietto of Plattsburg, Missouri, 6 grandchildren; Katherine, Vito Jr., Stephanie, Christopher, Calie and Zoe, 6 great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Christine DiCesaris and grandson Alex Holden.

A period of visitation will be held from 11AM to 1PM on Saturday, February 13 th at the Langan Funeral Home, 327 Main Street Schoharie followed by a funeral service at 1PM. Burial will be later in the Lutheran Cemetery in Schoharie next to her beloved Mario.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Carmella to: the Scho-Wright Ambulance Service, PO Box 325, Schoharie, NY 12157, OR to the Schoharie Fire Department, PO Box 428, Schoharie, NY 12157, OR to the Schoharie Free Library Assoc., 103 Knower Ave., Schoharie, NY 12157.
