Upon his review of Kathy LaPine’s life and her impact on the lives of others, Ralph Waldo Emerson’s awed expression would truly be a sight to behold.

Kathleen “Kathy” Clare LaPine passed away at the age of 69 in the early afternoon on Wednesday, January 27th, 2021. She was born to Robert and Clare Dede on September 20, 1951, in the Bronx. After graduating Preston High School in 1970, she obtained her degree from St. Clare’s Hospital and Health Center School of Nursing in 1972.

Kathy devoted her life to helping others, working as a registered nurse at Albert Einstein Hospital for 8 years and, after raising her two children, in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Westchester Medical Center for 25 years before retiring in 2015. Being a nurse was not what she did. It was who she was. And the relationships and friendships developed over her nursing career remained some of her most treasured. She also served as the “neighborhood nurse” for more than 40 years, doing whatever she could to help friends and neighbors in need.

An Ossining resident for 44 years, Kathy never wanted to live anywhere else, despite constantly complaining she was cold. She loved spending time along the Ossining waterfront, exploring Teatown, going to her family’s cabin in Smallwood (NY), watching awful Sci-Fi movies, and was an avid NY Rangers fan. She also enjoyed watching the wildlife in her yard, feeding them so often that her back porch consistently resembled a scene from Sleeping Beauty.

Kathy is survived by her partner Al, son Edward, daughter Keri, brother Robert, sister Maureen, four beautiful grandchildren (Anaya, Tristan, Caden, and Annaliese), five nieces/nephews, and countless devoted and loving friends.

Though words have a magical power that can bring the greatest happiness, they still are not powerful enough to adequately describe the amazing woman that Kathy was. Maya Angelou once said that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. For those whose lives Kathy touched, no words need be spoken. We are all better people for having had her in our lives. May God bless and welcome her.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday (Feb. 3rd) from 4pm to 8pm at Dorsey Funeral Home.
She will be laid to rest at Dale Cemetery.
