Ossining Farmers Market Resumes With Winter Hours

Support the farmers and small businesses while providing yourself with healthy foods. You can even order ahead.

OSSINING, NY — The Ossining Farmers Market returns Saturday to the corner of Main and Spring streets for its winter season.

The market will operate from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. throughout the winter. You can shop for vegetables and fruits, seafood, meat and eggs, plus prepared foods, breads, pickles, desserts and extras.

"The winter farmers market means going home with shopping bags full of the ingredients for winter soups, stews and roasts, with cookies and warm drinks, cocktail spirits and olives," market organizers said.

Shoppers have the option of ordering ahead — a great idea when the weather is, well, wintry. Check the market's website or Facebook page for updates and and use the WhatsGood app or website.

The winter market is important for the small businesses that are its vendors, organizers pointed out.

"From the vendor's side of the tent, the winter farmers market means continuity for their small business - paying the bills, keeping employees on staff, and continuing to make and do what they love best. It means sustaining a project that may have been the work of a lifetime or a "plan B" leap of faith with a commitment to be there for their customers year-round. Very significantly, it is how many of our vendors build resources for next summer, whether that involves ordering seeds or planning out how many wheels of cheese or bottles of bourbon to produce. If you love the summer farmers market, come meet us under the tents at the winter market, where your food dollars have a big impact and you will always find something delicious."
