The Village of Ossining and the Ossining Recreation & Parks Department is honoring the late Shannon Ross by naming the tennis court facility at Nelson Park in her honor.
The ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. May 6Â at the Nelson Park tennis courts. In the event of rain the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Joseph G. Caputo Community Center, 95 Broadway.
Ross was an Ossining resident who championed the sport of tennis in the community and worked tirelessly to reinvigorate the sport in Ossining. She helped develop youth tennis programs through both the school district and the recreation department. She promoted adult tennis programs and USTA team competitions. Her crowning achievement could be considered the installation of lights at the Nelson Park tennis courts, which were in fact lights that were originally installed at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
