Plea In Van Cortlandt Avenue Shooting
The victim suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and sustained life-altering permanent injuries.

OSSINING, NY — The shooter in an Ossining attack last year has pleaded guilty to attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon. He is scheduled for sentencing April 24.
Mario Mieles shot at a man nine times with a semi-automatic pistol on Van Cortlandt Avenue at 4:45 a.m. Feb. 10, 2019. The victim and Mieles had known each other for years.
The victim suffered from multiple gunshot wounds and as a result, sustained life-altering permanent injuries.

Mieles fled but surrendered to police four days later. An indictment was handed down in March 2019.
A 40 caliber Smith and Wesson was found near the crime scene by a civilian. The police were able to match the gun with the shell casings and other recovered ballistics evidence.

Speculation in Ossining right afterward centered around whether the two were teens and if the shooting was gang-related. Neither was true, police said during the investigation.
Mieles, 31, pleaded guilty to felony charges of Attempted Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.
Assistant District Attorney Lana Hochheiser, Deputy Chief of the Homicide Bureau, is prosecuting the case.
