Serious Crash Closes Route 9 In Croton Tuesday
The driver had to be extricated from his car and the woods to be airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.

CROTON-ON-HUDSON, NY — A one-person, one-car crash on Route 9 south of the Montrose exit caused serious injuries to the driver and big problems for the evening commute. The driver apparently left the road and down about 20 feet into the woods.
Emergency responders needed to clear a path through the trees to get the driver out. He was then airlifted to Westchester Medical Center.
The highway was shut down in both directions for only about 30 minutes after the crash, which took place at 2:47 p.m. near the Warren Road bridge, but the southbound side remained closed for about five hours.

State troopers were first on the scene. Croton Fire Department and Croton EMS also responded. Croton-on-Hudson police investigating the crash were assisted by Westchester County police.

The driver is a 47-year-old Croton resident, police said.
