Something Good in the World Awarded Grant for Garden Project
SGITW received a grant from the Whole Kids Foundation's Garden Grant Program to maintain and develop their Children's Peaceful Garden.

From Something Good in the World: Something Good in the World (SGITW), a local leader in environmental education, received a grant from the Whole Kids Foundation’s Garden Grant Program to maintain and develop their Children’s Peaceful Garden (CPG), which teaches local children about sustainable and healthy eating in child-centered, hands-on ways.
The grant is the most recent recognition of their innovative ‘edible education’ model that is seventeen years in the making. Earlier this year, SGITW received a grant from the prestigious Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program to enhance their bee sanctuary - comprised of an apiary and a bee friendly garden - which is an important part of the organization’s award-winning program. SGITW represented the Jane Goodall Institute at the United Nations in 2016, with their Children’s Peaceful Garden design as an example of Peace and Sustainability.
“It’s an honor to receive so much national support for our local Children’s Peaceful Garden in Ossining, to be able to make farm-based education programs available to children from all walks of life.” said SGITW Director Barbara Sarbin, now a “Garden Ambassador” for the Jane Goodall Institute.

With support from an international team of gardeners and landscape artists, the Children’s Peaceful Garden was first created in 2000, and became a template for children’s learning and play spaces around the world. The CPG includes native woodlands plants, flowers to attract beneficial insects and pollinators, sensory-oriented gardens, organic vegetable and fruits, and constructed wetlands and pond-fed by run of water.
SGITW’s annual Family Volunteer Work Day takes place in the Children’s Peaceful Garden on the first Saturday in May. Email Barbara Sarbin for details: somethinggooditw@aol.com
