Thanksgiving Trips Could Take Four Times As Long: AAA
Thanksgiving travel will set a record, AAA predicts. Here's how long it may take you to get to the airport or drive to your destination.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — AAA predicts even more Americans will go more than 50 miles for Thanksgiving this year. That's 54.3 million people, the highest Thanksgiving travel volume since 2005.
If you're driving, give yourself a lot more time. AAA worked with INRIX, a global mobility analytics company, to analyse when travel times will be at their nastiest. And it's the evening commute period, with travel times starting to increase on Monday. The tri-state area should be one of the worst, they said; drivers in San Francisco, New York City and Boston will experience nearly quadruple normal drive times.
- The worst time for New York: 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday.
- The most congested section: I-95 W, exit 7 to Hamilton Bridge
If you already have plane tickets, so you can't adjust your travel times, better adjust your getting-to-the-airport times. AAA predicts getting from Manhattan to JFK via the Long Island Expressway will take an hour and 19 minutes during the Tuesday evening rush.
