Afternoon Storms Left O&R Customers Without Power

Crews are in the field and will address further outages as they occur, O&R officials said.

PEARL RIVER, NY — About 3,400 customers, mostly in Orange & Rockland’s Rockland Electric Company service area in Bergen County, New Jersey, lost power Thursday afternoon.

The utility's emergency response team restored power to all but about 600 customers and began repairing damage.

Crews are in the field and will address further outages as they occur, O&R officials said.

More thunderstorms are expected to scatter across the region throughout the evening. The remnants of Tropical Storm Elsa also are expected to pass nearby overnight, producing more heavy rain (one to three inches) and wind gusts up to 35 mph through noon Friday. Today is the third consecutive day that O&R company and contractor overhead line crews and tree removal experts and the wide array of O&R teams that support those functions are mobilized for severe thunderstorm activity. The O&R team is further supported by 95 additional overhead line contractors, almost doubling the size of O&R’s field forces.
