Garden State Parkway Crash Kills Spring Valley Man
Police said a pick-up truck rear-ended a tractor trailer.
CHESTNUT RIDGE, NY – A Spring Valley man was killed Friday night in a collision on the Garden State Parkway in Chestnut Ridge. Police said a Harrison, New York resident driving a pickup truck rear-ended a tractor trailer.
State police were sent to the accident on the southbound side of the parkway at mile marker 1.6 at 9:30 p.m.
Troopers said their preliminary investigation suggested that the operator of a 2016 Freightliner tractor trailer, William M. Crawford, 54, of Phenix City, Alabama, was slowing down in the right lane, with hazard lights on, preparing to exit the parkway, when Edgar E. Cevellos Vega, 48, of Harrison, smashed into the back of the truck driving a 2004 Ford F150.

The rear seat passenger of the F150, Luis G. Cevallos Vega, 23, of Spring Valley, NY, was not seat belted and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Westchester County Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The front seat passenger of the F150, Maria Vega, 70, of Spring Valley, NY, suffered multiple non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Nyack Hospital.

Vega was transported to Westchester County Hospital for serious injuries.
Crawford was not injured.
Troop F BCI, Collision Reconstruction Unit, and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit responded to the scene to assist SP Tarrytown Troopers with the investigation.
