Hudson Valley Advisories For Heat, Storms, Flash Floods

Expect thunderstorms and high humidity, says the National Weather Service.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Hazardous weather outlooks have been issued for the Hudson Valley again Wednesday, after thunderstorms caused flash flooding Tuesday afternoon.

In addition, heat index values could approach 95 degrees in parts of the region due to the combination of high humidity and very warm temperatures, the National Weather Service said.

For Dutchess and Ulster counties, scattered showers and thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon will be capable of producing heavy rain and may result in localized flooding in urban, poor drainage and low lying areas, the NWS warned. In addition, stronger thunderstorm may produce isolated areas of damaging winds.

For Orange, Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties, the National Weather Service said there will be scattered thunderstorms Wednesday afternoon and early evening. There is the potential for heavy rainfall which may produce localized flash flooding. Gusty winds and lightning strikes are also threats.

It's going to be very humid overnight.

"But relief is on the way! Winds out of the northeast will pull drier air south from Canada," said Alex Marra and Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather. "That will take the humidity out of the air in the Hudson Valley on Thursday, with dew points dropping from 70° today, to near 50° Thursday afternoon."
