Since 7 am today, O&R has restored electric service to approximately 11,000 customers whose power was knocked out by high winds. O&R restored power that was knocked out by the wind to about 1,500 customers overnight last night.

O&R’s full complement of company and contractor overhead line technicians and tree removal experts are ready to expedite system repairs and electric service restoration as needed for customers whose power has been or could be knocked out by today’s high gusty winds. Seventy-five outside contractors have also been obtained to supplement today’s efforts.

Damage assessment, site safety, customer service operations and the wide array of O&R teams that support those functions also are ready to aid in service restoration efforts.

High winds can cause power line damage and electric service interruptions. Of particular concern in this storm are trees with nearly full canopies of leaves that provide extra strain on branches and trunks in high winds, and rain-saturated ground that provides less stable footing for the roots that anchor trees.

Expect sustained winds of 15-30 mph with gusts as high as 40-50 mph today. Winds will remain very gusty through late afternoon. After sunset, sustained winds are expected to drop down to 15-25 mph with gusts of 25-35 mph and remain at that level until late Tuesday morning. A few isolated rain/snow showers are possible today into Tuesday but no snow accumulation is expected.
