Orangetown is an International Host of Science Research For Sure!
Would You Believe that Orangetown Hosts 3 of the World's Greatest Scientific Research Facilities ?
Well It’s true.
Let me explain. Lederle Laboratories, which was born in New York City, moved to 99 acres on Middletown in Pearl River [and Nanuet] in 1907.
It became America Cyanamid in 1930 and then Pfizer - yes, the Pfizer that has the worlds’s attention vis a vis the Pandemic’ possible fix with its vaccine. It stayed on Middletown Road until 2015.

During those years the world was given significant medications and vaccines. Some examples you may recognize are puromycin, oral polio vaccine, diphtheria antitoxin & Prevnar 7-V.
And during the world’s biggest war, WW II, they produced 1/3 of all typhus vaccine + 1/2 of all the gas gangrene antitoxin + 1/4 of all the blood plasma + 1/3 of all the influenza vaccine + 1/2 of all the tetanus vaccines for our armed forces.

Amazing isn’t it ?
But the story does not end there.
In 1952, the New York State Office of Mental Health established the Nathan Kline Institute For Psychiatric Research Center of the grounds of the Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg. It has served our world by its scientific medical and psychiatric research of the human mind. It is a world leader of the development of psychopharmacological treatments which helped facilitate the deinstitutional culture change and the treatment of mental illness.
As I write this, it is searching for the cause and cure of dementia and Alzheimer’s
It studies the etiology, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation of one of the world’s crushing sad curse of mental illness.
Okay, we know that Orangetown hosted/hosts two of the world’s greatest scientific research facilities to conquer the enemies of our bodies and minds/brains, but do you know about the Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory on 157 acres inthe hamlet of Palisades, which hs been there since 1949 ?
It is not only a world facility, it’s research is all about our world.
I am copying the descriptive words on Google to tell you about it - “the Lamont–Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University is one of the world's leading research centers developing fundamental knowledge about the origin, evolution and future of the natural world. More than 300 research scientists and students study the planet from its deepest interior to the outer reaches of its atmosphere, on every continent and in every ocean. From global climate change to earthquakes, volcanoes, nonrenewable resources, environmental hazards and beyond, Observatory scientists provide a rational basis for the difficult choices facing humankind in the planet's stewardship.”
I should also report how open it is to our community and its students
So all three scientific research are world influencing and all had/have a home in Orangetown, which confirms my statement that Orangetown is very special in all the good ways.
