Orangetown Supervisor Election Headed to Appellate Court Wednesday

As expected, attorney Guy Parisi filed an appeal on behalf of Republican candidate for Orangetown Supervisor Walter Wettje Friday.

The appeal is expected to be heard 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Second Department in Brooklyn. The appeals court granted a stay to keep the Rockland County Board of Elections from certifying the results Friday.

The parties had been expected back in Acting State Supreme Court Judge Victor Alfieri's courtroom in the Rockland County Courthouse Friday to address the issue of certification. Wettje is appealing Alfieri's rulings in the case, which include the decision issued last Wednesday to not count six of the remaining absentee ballots.

Six other absentee ballots were counted Thursday, giving incumbent Democrat Andy Stewart a victory by only two votes pending an appeal.
