Pearl River Girls’ Soccer Team Champs In Pursuit Of State Title
Team members fight through 4 overtime battles without quitting.

From County of Rockland Legislature: Members of one of the county’s most exciting soccer teams have been formally recognized by the Rockland County Legislature for their tenacity and hard work as they scored a state championship title.
“It’s always difficult to win a state championship, but the members of the Pearl River High School Girls’ Soccer Team dedicated themselves to the effort,” Legislator Vincent D. Tyer said. “More importantly, each member drew on the kind of strength that really only comes from within - it cannot be taught. Their dedication to practice and their commitment to something bigger resulted in a shared victory for their team mates, their school mates and the larger community.”
Said Legislator Patrick Moroney, “This is an incredible feat for our Pearl River team – the very first girls’ soccer championship in the history of the school’s program. We are all so proud of their achievement, but just as equally, the effort it took to get the team to the top.”

But not this year!
Pearl River battled Spencerport through four overtimes, earning the title of Co-State Champions. The match, played Nov. 12, ended in a 2-2 draw and the state title tie.
According to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association, it’s just the 10th time since 1983 that there are Co-State champs, and just the third time there are Co-Class A champs. It’s the first time in the history of Pearl River’s program that the team has earned the state championship title.
Legislators Tyer and Moroney presented Certificates of Achievement to the team Tuesday on behalf of the entire Legislature.
