Please read this note and see if you don't feel strong empathy to help us take the necessary steps to prevent the travesty of releasing a monster from prison. Almost 41 years ago, there was a heinous crime committed in the rural hamlet of Pearl River, NY. Two "men" took the life of sincerely sweet Paula Bohovesky, a 16-year-old young woman, as she walked home from the Pearl River Library where she worked. The two killers, one a resident of Orangetown, NY, Richard LaBarbera, the other a drifter from Arkansas, Robert McCain, had spent the day drinking in a bar on Central Avenue in Pearl River. According to police, they followed Paula in the fading light as she passed through town on her way home. McCain dragged Paula into a backyard of a house on Main Street, struck her on the head with a chunk of concrete, beat her, and tried to assault her sexually; LaBarbera then stabbed her repeatedly. Paula died fiercely fighting for her life, beaten, stabbed, and dehumanized. They were both arrested and found guilty of her murder. To this day, there has been no repentance or apolo

To this day, there has been no repentance or apology from the killers. These despicable acts occurred just a few blocks from her home, where her parents waited in vain for her return. After 40 years in prison, LaBarbera is now paroled, and McCain is up for parole in June of this year. Rather than accept blame or display remorse, McCain has been belligerent and still in denial in recent parole hearings. He has changed his story about how he left the scene of Paula's murder and how he fled to Arkansas, where he was located and arrested. McCain claims that he had an arranged ride, hitchhiked, took a bus, and finally took a train are all lies. He is an unrepentant, unapologetic, and yet an untroubled beast.
