2 Unions Start Long, Limited Recruitment Programs
They're looking for two Carpenter, five Glazier and five Painter, Decorator & Paperhanger apprentices.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY ? Two unions, the Finishing Trades Institute and the North Atlantic States Council of Carpenters, are conducting long recruitments for a very few apprentices.
Finishing Trades
The Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Finishing Trades Institute of New York at Wappingers Falls will conduct a recruitment from March 3 through Feb. 23, 2023 for five Glazier apprentices and five Painter, Decorator & Paperhanger apprentices.

The openings are the total number for four recruitment regions ? Capital District, Hudson Valley, Mohawk Valley, and North Country.
The Committee requires that applicants:

- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED).
- Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
- For the Glazier apprenticeship, must possess a valid driver?s license in order to operate company vehicles.
Applications can be obtained at the Finishing Trades Institute of New York at 21 Airport Drive, Wappingers Falls, NY from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Thursday, excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Carpenters
The North Atlantic States Carpenters Training Fund will conduct a recruitment from March 7, through March 6, 2023 for two apprentices.
Candidates must attend an in-person information session prior to submitting an electronic application. Sessions are given the first Monday of each month at 6 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period at NASCTF, 52 Stone Castle Road, Rock Tavern, NY 12575. If the first Monday falls on a holiday, the information session will occur at the second Monday of that month at 6 p.m.
Spaces are limited, and filled on a first come first serve basis. At the conclusion of the information session, a passcode will be given which is required to complete an online application. Applications are available online during the recruitment period. Applicants who do not have internet access may visit their local library or nearest New York State Department of Labor Career Center when open.
If any assistance is needed for completing the online application, contact the NASCTF at (845) 567-1810 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
In order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 during the application process each applicant MUST wear an appropriate face covering and respect & maintain a proper social distance while standing in line, both inside and outside the building, as well as while completing the actual application for apprenticeship.
The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof will be required at time of application.
- Must attest in writing that they are physically able to perform the work of a Carpenter, which may include:
- Working on scaffolds and in confined spaces.
- Working under conditions of inclement weather, such as rain, snow, cold, heat, and direct sunlight.
- Performing constant repetitive motions.
- Climbing and working from heights.
- Lifting items weighing a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Standing and stooping for prolonged periods of time.
- Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship. If applicant tests positive, he/she cannot reapply for one year.
- Must be willing to attend related instruction classes as required.
- Must have reliable means of transportation and be willing to travel to and from various job sites (in counties listed below) and required classes at the approved school.
- Must live in the geographical jurisdiction of the NASCTF, which includes the counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester.
- Must provide military transfer card or discharge form DD-214, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
