The work of these students highlights the success of the Briarcliff Art Program, which emphasizes classical technique within a contemporary framework. Visual Arts Department Coordinator and instructor of drawing and painting, Roxanne Ritacco, curated the show.

On view will be paintings and drawings that represent a variety of genres from landscape to portraiture. Works will include regional Silver Key award winners and senior portfolios that demonstrate sustained work pertaining to a specially chosen theme.

A selection of photographs made with traditional darkroom techniques will be on view as well as digitally designed images all made under the guidance of instructor John Brooks. The students of Jean Linville are presenting an array of imaginative ceramics, both sculptural and functional. Film shorts, created by the Introduction to Film and Digital Editing class and the Briarcliff Future Filmmakers, led by faculty member Jamie Mandel, will round off the evening.

The guest speaker at Art Salon 2017 is Christopher Manning. Manning works in the rich context of mixed media. His images often combine photography, drawing, painting and collage. He is interested in storytelling and creates works that invite the viewer to confront dualities within the human narrative. Manning holds an MFA from SUNY New Paltz and a BFA from Manhattanville College. His work has been widely exhibited and has been included in shows at the Dorsky Museum and MOMA’s PS1.
