Insurance Brokerage Firm Lends Expertise to ExportNY Program

Bob Furjanic, owner/founder of Four Anchors Worldwide, LLC in Pleasantville, is well versed in the ends and outs of exporting as a way of expanding a company’s sales and its desire to reach new markets.

The businessman, with over 30 years of experience in the maritime brokerage business, was one of several speakers at a multi-day ExportNY conference held at Binghamton University this past spring.

Representatives from companies in the southern tier region of New York State participated in the initiative titled, “Launch into the Global Marketplace Program: Expand Markets, Increase Sales and Maximize Profit.”

The sessions were organized by Binghamton University’s Center for International Business Advancement, which runs the ExportNY Program, an interactive initiative for senior-level executives.

Its primary purpose is to assist companies from the southern tier region of the state to expand their businesses through successful exporting and continuous international business development.

SUNY Binghamton works in close partnership with the Alliance for Manufacturing & Technology, the U.S. Commercial Service, the Global New York Program of Empire State Development Corporation, and the Small Business Development Center located at the university.

In his presentation on April 3 titled, “International Business Exposures & Risk Management/Insurance,” Mr. Furjanic talked about the different types of insurance an exporter should consider when engaging in international trade, including a crisis management scenario when claims involving three unrelated types of insurance impact a company on a single day.

His April 17 talk, “Challenges and Opportunities in Export Logistics, focused exclusively on ocean cargo insurance with an emphasis on refrigeration, protecting the goods from damage during transit and handling gray area claims.

“The ExportNY program is not just for new exporters but is structured so that even seasoned veterans will gain knowledge on how to improve their international sales and protect their assets,” said Furjanic.

“The takeaway from our sessions was we need to re-assess our risks involving international trade and how we can transfer it to others”
