WESTCHESTER, NY — Here are some of the events that will take place in Westchester parks over the weekend.
SATURDAY, FEB. 23
Sugarhouse Chat – 10 a.m. – 12 noon. Trailside Nature Museum at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Routes 35 and 121 South, Cross River -- (914) 864-7322. During sugaring season, every morning we are making one of nature's sweetest rewards, maple syrup. Come into the sugar house to chat with us any day you see smoke or steam.

Meet the Nature Center Animals – 11 a.m. – 12 noon. Cranberry Lake Preserve, Old Orchard Street, North White Plains – (914) 428-1005. Get up close and personal with the residents as you learn all about these fascinating creatures.
Volunteer Work Project: Clearing the Northern Border – 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Marshlands Conservancy, Boston Post Road, Rye – (914) 835-4466. Great for any type of service credit hours. Please bring work gloves. All hand tools will be provided.

SATURDAY – SUNDAY, FEB. 23 - 24
Project Feeder Watch – 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Croton Point Nature Center, Croton Point Park, Croton-on-Hudson – (914) 862-5297. Identify and count birds at the nature center's bird feeders. Beginners encouraged, all welcome! Saturday and Sunday mornings through March. Go to projectfeederwatch.org.
Sugaring at Muscoot – 12 noon – 3 p.m. Muscoot Farm, Route 100, Somers – (914) 864-7282. Sugarin' is in full swing at the farm. Watch how maple sap is turned into syrup.
SUNDAY, FEB. 24
Outdoor Adventure Prep – 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Cranberry Lake Preserve, Old Orchard Street, North White Plains – (914) 428-1005. A workshop for those who want to explore the outdoors. Topics to be covered are types of clothing, signs of hyper-hypothermia, planning your distance, possible hazards, leave-no-trace ethics, emergency strategies and group management. Registration required by 2/19.
Starting Seeds Indoors – 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Lasdon Park, Arboretum and Veterans Memorial, Route 35, Somers – (914) 864-7268. Lasdon's horticulturist will discuss the timing and techniques for planting seeds indoors to produce healthy transplants for the garden. Participants will take home seeds that they will plant during the workshop. Free but registration is required at (914) 864-7264.
Exploring the Shorelines – 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Marshlands Conservancy, Boston Post Road, Rye – (914) 835-4466. A hike to learn about the salt marsh and Parson’s Island.

MONDAY, FEB. 25
Fourth Monday Bird Walk – 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Croton Point Park, Croton Point Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson – (914) 862-5290. Bring binoculars and join the experts from Saw Mill River Audubon for a bird watching hike. All levels welcome. Meet at ballfield parking near main entrance.
