More Details on Traffic Pattern Change on the Saw Mill Parkway Starting Aug. 6

Pleasantville officials reveal some important details.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — During the 21-Day Summer Detour commencing on Aug. 6 while the state reconstructs two bridges on the Saw Mill River Parkway in Pleasantville, the traffic and pedestrian conditions will change markedly.

The New York State Department of Transportation is reconstructing two structures located under historic arch bridges at Bedford Road and Pleasantville Road and over the Saw Mill River. The historic bridges are not part of the project, officials said.

The new pattern will restrict the parkway to a single lane in both directions between Exit 27 (Marble Avenue) and Exit 30 (Grant Street), while crews perform construction activities, weather permitting.

But the devil is in the details:

  • The two southbound lanes of the SMRP will be closed 24/7. The northbound side will be one lane each way.
  • Pedestrians will NOT be allowed to cross the SMRP at Grant Street.
  • Westbound traffic on Grant Street will not be allowed onto or be able cross the SMRP
  • Eastbound traffic on Grant Street will not be allowed onto or be able to cross the SMRP
  • Northbound traffic on the SMRP will be able to exit off the SMRP at Grant Street and travel eastbound on Grant Street
  • Traffic on Grant Street traveling eastbound or westbound will NOT be allowed to cross the SMRP nor be allowed to turn onto the SMRP. The two traffic signals at the SMRP/Grant Street intersection will either be turned off and “bagged” completely, or the traffic signals facing north/south direction on the SMRP will be set to FLASHING YELLOW and the signals facing the east/west direction of Grant Street will be FLASHING RED.

Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay particular attention to flaggers and all traffic control devices, including signs.
Remember that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
