John was a devoted family member, travelled widely and enjoyed opera. For many years, he, his brother Bob and sister-in-law, Susan, had a subscription on Saturday nights to the Metropolitan Opera. Among his favorites were Tosca, Aida and Donizetti’s “Three Queens” trilogy. In 2016, the three saw their last opera together with Sondra Radvanovsky in Roberto Devereux at the Met, a highlight all agreed was one of the best performances they’d ever seen at the Met. Shortly before he died, John, together with Bob and Susan, listened to Beverly Sills’ rendition of Elisabetta in New York City Opera’s performance of Roberto Devereux.
