Ossining Chef's Shrimp Recipe Wins Grand Prize in Neighborhood Restaurant Contest

The Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest celebrates independent family eateries and one-of a- kind dishes that reflect their local flavors.

Beylka Krupp of Wobble Café in Ossining, NY is the Grand Prize Winner in the first annual Neighborhood to Nation Recipe Contest.

Celebrity Chef Amanda Freitag made the announcement yesterday at General Mills’ headquarters in Minneapolis where the three finalists met and participated in a day of celebration and inspiration.

As the Grand Prize winner, Krupp receives a $50,000 prize package ($40,000 cash plus $10,000 for a local charity of her choice) for her Shrimp Etouffee recipe, one of the specialty dishes she serves at Wobble Café—a family-friendly, neighborhood eatery known for its brunches, baked goods and soups.

They are: DeDe Johnson of Johnson’s Farm Restaurant in Orange, Mass., for her Yogurt Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake; and Donal Clark of Miller’s Seawall Grill in Galveston, Texas, whose recipe was an ultra-decadent Pecan Chocolate Ganache Brownie Cake.

“All three of the finalists are winners for how they bring the spirit of ‘Neighborhood to Nation’ to life, from their award-winning recipes that showcase their local flavor to how each of these individuals contribute to their local community without expecting anything in return,” said Danielle Benson, associate channel manager for General Mills Foodservice. “Grand Prize Winner Beylka Krupp’s recipe for Shrimp Etouffee particularly wowed our judges who were impressed with her use of a General Mills product to create a truly signature dish to differentiate her menu.”

  • Her winning recipe: a Cajun-spiced shrimp stew that blends tomato, garlic, onion, cream and Cajun spices and herbs served with rice and jalapeno-cheese cornbread.

To qualify for the contest, restaurants submitted an original breakfast, entrée or dessert recipe using at least one ingredient from General Mills’ list of eligible products. Open to foodservice operators, chefs and line cooks at independent family dining establishments, the to-be-annual contest put neighborhood restaurants’ dishes in the national spotlight.
