INVESTING IN A GREAT SPRING
2021 is soon underway, and the holidays are nearly behind us. While spring seems distant to us now, January is the month farmers invest in the outdoor growing season to come.
One place that helps farmers sustain their investment potential is our year-round market. With less than 25% of NYS farmers markets staying open year-round, each market dollar received by a farmer in winter is important. Pleasantville's winter market offers shoppers a way to continue connecting directly with the farms that supply their food. And those farms have really great foods to justify your trip to Memorial Plaza each Saturday.

Whether you're inspired to support regional farms, or simply want to create a delicious menu for the week, shop the Pleasantville Farmers Market and you accomplish both. See you at the Plaza!

STRIVING TO BE THE BEST, EVERY WEEK
Last year the Market was among over a dozen Pleasantville businesses awarded the honor of “Best of Westchester” by voters in Westchester Magazine’s annual contest. As a community-based service, we’re proud of this feedback as an indication that we’re fulfilling our mission to our community, farms and food artisans -- year-round.Now the 2021 “Best of Westchester” first round voting is open. Please take a minute to VOTE TODAY for your favorite farmers market and all local, small businesses that have earned your loyalty.
TO BEGIN use this Best of Westchester link which takes you to the Reader's Ballot for Food & Drink to place your vote for a favorite farmers market in two categories: “Farmers Market” (listed as #34) and “Produce” (listed as #57). Then explore the other eight categories listing other great county-based businesses. Once you have voted, encourage fellow shoppers and family members to vote to help the contest garner more momentum. Thanks for participating!

Phelps Health Tip:
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: "During the cold days of winter you should consider eating more carbohydrates like those from root vegetables – they help the body to sustain a little more weight, which is needed to insulate against the cold weather. Warming vegetables like potatoes, cabbages, carrots, onions, rutabagas, and winter squash all store well in cool, dark places, and can provide energy and comfort throughout the winter season". As we near the end of our stored squash season, both Mead Orchards and Gajeski Produce still have a variety of winter squash.
It's a long winter
please support your market!
We're so grateful to shoppers that have reached us recently with support as $10 and $25 Friends, $50 Harvest Heroes and $100 Winter Warriors. The Market is committed to staying open and safe for all our shoppers and producers, but it hasn't been easy – and these donations have become critical. Contributions of $50 and up come with amazing Market swag and no PFM-O pickup fees through March! If you wish to make a donation you can use this link, or donate through PFM-O when it is open - and THANKS in advance for your support - your collaboration helps make the outdoor Winter Market possible. Please note that because the Market is a 501 (c)(4) nonprofit organization, individual contributions are not tax deductible.
