Pleasantville Fights Fire In Vacant Building

The blaze on Vanderbilt Avenue was found before dawn Tuesday.

PLEASANTVILLE, NY — Firefighters battled a blaze in a vacant building on Vanderbilt Avenue before dawn Tuesday with help from neighboring departments.

At 5:04 a.m., the first firefighters arriving at Vanderbilt Avenue and Depew Street found a fire and heavy smoke conditions, Pleasantville Fire Department officials said on Facebook.

Vanderbilt was closed and village officials warned residents to avoid the area.

Firefighters cleared the scene by 11 a.m. Mutual aid came from Briarcliff, Chappaqua, Thornwood and Valhalla, and Pocantico Hills and Hawthorne fire departments covered the village of Pleasantville in case of other fire calls.
