Probation For Girl Scout Leader Convicted Of Child Sex Abuse

The former Girl Scout leader will have to register as a sex offender.

MOUNT PLEASANT, NY — A former Girl Scout leader will have to register as a sex offender, but won't have to spend any time in prison.

Albert Orjuela of Mount Pleasant was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty in April to Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both misdemeanors. He had originally also been charged with felony sex abuse.

Specifically, the 44-year-old was sentenced to the following:

  • For Sexual Abuse: 6 years’ probation with sex offender conditions and a 6-year order of protection.
  • For Endangering: 3 years’ probation with sex offender conditions and a 5-year order of protection.

Both sentences will run concurrently. Probation is conditional upon 5-year orders of protection for 17 witnesses, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced.

He was arrested in January by the Mount Pleasant Police Department after Girl Scouts Heart of the Hudson Valley started receiving complaints from families of several girls.

Scarpino said Orjuela inappropriately touched one child victim. In the other instance, he acted in an inappropriate sexual manner in front of the child victim.

According to the NY Post, the 14-year-old girls’ families OK'd the plea deal.
