WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY — New York State Police received information Tuesday that a group of scammers are contacting the public in Westchester County identifying themselves as the New York State Police. They then request personal information such as social security numbers, and demand money orders or gift card purchases.
The telephone number the con artists are calling from shows on caller ID as that of a state police station, although the calls are not originating from the NYSP.
We can confirm this is a scam. Also, the state police would never ask for this information over the phone or request any type of money transaction. We are investigating the matter, police officials said.

As with any suspicious phone call, the State Police recommend that you never share any personal information over the phone, unless you are 100% percent certain of the origin of the call. Ensure that verifying conditions exist such as security questions, and passwords that only you and the vendor would know.
