Winter Harvest? Yes, of course!

Pleasantville Farmers Market is open Saturday, 9:00am – 11:30am

Shoppers at the Pleasantville Farmers Market can expect a winter harvest thanks to the great work of our talented producers. Our farmers grow winter-grown, fresh produce including shoots, herbs, microgreens, kale, chard, carrots, scallions, radishes and bok choy. Others produce fresh duck, chicken and eggs. And Pura Vida Fisheries has just-caught seafood, some only seen during winter months.

Additionally, the previous growing season is still very much with us. Shoppers can shop for cows milk cheeses (Edgwick Farm returns with goat milk cheeses next Saturday, 2/16). Regional grains, stored from the fall, are baked into breads every Friday for Saturday's shoppers. Summer has been bottled as honey, jams, chutneys, and sauces. Farms have abundant pork, beef, goat and lamb items. And Mead Orchard has 20 varieties of apples stored so they remain crisp, as well as jarred apple sauce, preserves and fresh cider. And many farms have cellared root vegetables too.

With a winter harvest of interesting options, menu planning remains full of potential. And when you want to take it easy in the kitchen, there are a number of prepared food items which use regionally produced ingredients present at the Market. Your weekly support directly helps all these farmers and food artisans. Make a difference, and a delicious, good menu by shopping at the Market all through the winter season.

BRISK SERVICE,
CRISP WEATHER

Preorder to beat the chill!
Saturday's weather will again show our producers' and shoppers' ability to adapt to a deep winter market season. There will be no walk up items at Mead Orchards, Gajeski Produce or Maple View Farm as these farms will focus on protecting and distributing preordered items from their heated trucks. Please preorder from these vendors for this reason.

Click Pleasantville Farmers Market Online to begin shopping after 7:00pm tonight. PFM-O is open until 7:00pm Thursday evening.

Phelps Health Tip:
Lead Sponsor Phelps Hospital Northwell Health shares the following: Authentic artisanal cheeses aid digestion through the presence of enzymes and/or anti-viral MCTs (medium-chain triglycerides). They also contain less salt than processed cheeses, and none of the dyes, preservatives, stabilizers and other unnecessary ingredients found in more conventional cheese products". Market note on our cheese producers: Bobolink Dairy and Chaseholm Farm Creamery is in every week, and Edgwick Farm returns next on 1/16.

It's a long winter
