Alan Pirrie, 82, Passed Away Peacefully

Mr. Pirrie was a former Sexton of Summerfield Methodist Church in Port Chester, NY.

Alan Pirrie, of Bethel, CT, beloved husband of the late Charlotte (Eccles) Pirrie, died peacefully on December 9th, 2015.

He was born on May 28th, 1933 in Glasgow, Scotland son of the late Robert and Agnes (Watson) Pirrie. Alan lived a varied and adventurous life, working in careers as diverse as traded baker, sexton for Summerfield Methodist Church in Port Chester, NY, a sheet metalworker, then draftsman and engineer with Richmond Engineering. While working with the merchant marines, he worked on the Queen Elizabeth I, as well as many other ships.

He loved amateur theater, working on and offstage, as producer/director / actor. He appeared in many memorable roles, including the Knight in Bergmann’s The Seventh Seal and Joxer in O’Casey’s Juno and the Paycock, most recently working with The Clan NaGeal and Polkadot Playhouse. He also loved literature and poetry and would often find any excuse for quoting lines from Shakespeare, Burns, and Lewis Carroll. Most importantly he was a generous, joyful and loving man who never failed to brighten the lives of everyone he met.

Alan is survived by his children: Sharon Cosek of Bethel, Lorna Pirrie and Alec Duthie of Blairgowrie, Scotland, Robert Pirrie and Jennifer Stone of Storrs, CT, Wendy and her husband Martin Ryan of Bridgeport, CT; his sister: Anne and her husband John Kriskey of Greenwich, CT; his brother David and his wife Patricia Pirrie of Fairfield, CT, his sister Marguerite and her husband George Casey of LaMesa, CA; as well as his companion Margaret (Peg) O’Leary of Trumbull, CT. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: James and Samantha Pirrie of Bridgeport, CT, John Heady and Sunida Infahsaeng of Trumbull, CT, Jacob and Benjamin Ryan of Bridgeport, CT, Casey Stone-Pirrie of Providence, RI and Nathaniel Cosek of Bethel, CT; his great grandson: Evan Alan Pirrie, as well as many loving nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

A private celebration of Alan’s life will be arranged. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Regional Hospice and Home Care of CT, Danbury.
