Another Truck Hits Hutchinson Parkway Overpass
The Wednesday incident is the 14th time a truck has struck the same overpass.

RYE BROOK, NY — It keeps happening. A truck has hit the King Street overpass along the Hutchinson River Parkway in Rye Brook for the 14th time this year. The truck was illegally traveling on the northbound parkway early Wednesday morning when it hit the overpass.
Fortunately, the wreckage was able to be moved to the exit ramp so traffic could keep flowing and was cleared by 7:30 a.m., News 12 said.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer has brought together local and state officials, the state Department of Transportation and the Trucking Association of New York to try to find ways to stop bridge strikes on the Hutch and other Westchester parkways.

He said it’s a solvable problem.

“This is a problem and it is going to stop,” Latimer said. “We are going to make every effort we can to try to end this. If government can’t solve this problem, then government can’t do anything.”

Among the proposed solutions are a DOT assessment of dramatic signage prior to the King Street Bridge on the Hutch parkway, an education program for users of all parkways that would explain the county’s parkway system, outreach to mapping companies to update software to add warning for trucks and commercial vehicles and “head banger” systems to warn truck not to proceed onto a highway where there are low overpasses.
