Police Investigate Gun Shots Fired in Port Chester
The Port Chester police department is investigating an early morning shooting at 70 Purdy Avenue.

Port Chester police are seeking two suspects involved in a shooting at 12:05 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25 that occurred at the 70 Purdy Avenue public housing development, Police Lt. James Ladeairous said today.
A bullet grazed the back of a bystander that police do not believe was involved in the shooting, Ladeairous said. Police learned of the injury when Greenwich Hospital called to report that the 22-year-old Port Chester man came in and told them he was shot in Port Chester. No other injuries have been reported.
The victim told police that he was in the front of the building when he heard the shots and he and others started running.
“He felt something wet on his back and his friend checked and told him he thought he was shot,” Ladeairous said. “He was bleeding. The bullet grazed him.”
Another witness told police that she was in front of the building when she heard gunshots from the back of the building, Ladeairous said. There was a second round of gunshots after people started running, according to the man who was hit by the bullet, police said.
The witness described one suspect as a white male wearing a ski mask, dark jacket, light colored pants and a multi-colored checkered shirt under the jacket. The other suspect was described only as wearing a dark jacket, Ladeairous said.
Police found three spent bullet cases on the ground in the back of the building and they believe the two shooters were working together but do not know who they were targeting at this time, Ladeairous said.
“The Port Chester police department is vigorously investigating this incident and we encourage anyone who may have information on it to contact the police department detective division,” Ladeairous said.
You can reach the Port Chester Police Department at 914-939-1000, ask for the detective division.
Although Port Chester police receive calls from people who say they heard gunshots occasionally, the last gunshots fired report in Port Chester that police could substantiate was on Nov. 6, 2012, Ladeairous said. In that case, multiple shots were fired at an Olivia Street home where police found bullet holes in the house. No one was home at the time and when they returned they reported the incident to police and claimed they had no idea why anyone would shoot the house, police said. There were no arrests made in that case.
