Port Chester Schools Going Remote Until Mid-January

PORT CHESTER, NY — Due to the village being designated a micro-cluster orange zone, Port Chester schools will continue doing full remote instruction into January.

School officials said, in a post on the district's website, depending on coronavirus infection rates in mid-January and the availability of testing, the possibility of reinstating and phasing-in a hybrid model will be examined.

Orange zone restrictions require testing for the coronavirus if schools are to have in-person classes.

At a school board meeting Thursday, Superintendent Edward Kliszus said the district could not comply with the requirement, the Journal News reported.

He said the district couldn't spend $50-$100 testing 1,000 people to get the students back into classrooms.

Meal distribution continues for the students at the four elementary schools between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on school days.
